Eco Factor: Environmentally responsible stadium for NFL.
Aedas Sport has designed the first LEED-certified NFL stadium for Majestic Realty, which is anticipated to be completed for the 2013 season. The innovative 75,000-seat stadium will be built at a cost of $800 million, which is about $400 million less than other NFL stadium proposals.
The designers have employed the unique topography of the site to build the stadium into a hillside, which reduces the steel structure by 40 percent and allows at least 75 percent of the seating bowl to be built on a grade. The asymmetrical configuration of the stadium allows the suites and VIP areas to be loaded on the west side and integrated into the adjacent retail promenade.
The 365-day-a-year stadium will also be used for soccer, college and high school football and large concerts apart from its primary use by the NFL. The stadium is slated to become the NFL’s first LEED compliant stadium and will reduce CO2 emissions and include various recycling initiatives for the same.
