The origins of sheesha smoking are misty but traces of it are found in 14th century.
Hookah fans suggest that smoking tobacco through a water pipe is less harmful but the fact that scientists point out is that even if it filters some of the irritants still the smoke contains high levels of nicotine, carbon monoxide and other toxic chemicals. Hookah bars are popular among 18-20 year olds. The growing popularity has led the American Lung Association and the World Health Organization to issue some awareness how harmful the sheesha is. The long term dangers are lung, heart disease, cancer, emphysema and asthma attacks. Statistics show that there are 100 million daily hookah smokers.
Hookah sessions of about 30 to 40 minutes is equivalent to smoking 100 cigarettes. According to British Medical Journal (2007) gum disease are commonly the problems that are prevailing among smokers.
